As an addendum to the Sweet Hill Farm LVA the project combined detailed wall condition surveys, historic landscape analysis and ecological considerations to develop a phased restoration strategy for Portland's distinctive field boundaries as part of a long term strategy for custodianship of the landscape.
Recommendations balanced wall restoration, scrub management, species-rich grassland enhancement and long-term stewardship, helping to conserve and reveal an important historic landscape feature and supporting biodiversity.
The resulting landscape strategy demonstrated how the restoration of locally distinctive dry stone walls could strengthen landscape character, reinforce the historic field pattern, enhance public appreciation of the landscape and contribute to the long-term stewardship of this nationally important coastal environment.
